Hickenlooper: Raising Taxes, Killing Jobs

Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper has pushed through over $290 million in new taxes on the already-overburdened residents of his city, exacerbating already difficult economic conditions. Under his high-tax policies, Denver has shed more than 39,000 jobs in 2009 alone.

Raising taxes and killing Denver jobs. John Hickenlooper and Bill Ritter are politicians of the same stripe.

“The Denver area lost 39,700 jobs in 2009, or 3.2 percent of its total employment, according to an analysis of new federal jobs data.”

“As of December 2009, the Denver metro area had 1,196,500, down from 1,200,700 in November and 1,236,200 in December 2009, [G. Scott Thomas, projects editor of the Denver Business Journal’s sister paper, Business First of Buffalo, N.Y.] calculated.”

“The Denver area had a 7.5 percent unemployment rate in December, versus a 6.3 percent jobless rate a year earlier, BLS data show.” 25
